2017 Phone Appeal student callers
The 40-strong membership of the student calling program at ANU reflects our diverse and vibrant student population. Our callers hail from around the globe and are truly representative of the full student lifecycle. Together they all share one unique quality - bringing the same energy, curiosity and enthusiasm they have in the classroom into their conversations with alumni.

My favourite thing about ANU is...the diversity of the student population. It never ceases to amaze me just how many different paths people come from to study at the ANU, especially at my residence Fenner Hall.
When I'm not studying, I love to... play football (soccer), whether for ANUFC or representing Fenner Hall in the Interhall competition. I also love to DJ - you can find me playing at Mooseheads on most weekends, or otherwise at residential bar nights and society events throughout the year.
If I could change one thing in the world, I would... make people more empathetic. Everyone deserves to have their point of view understood.

My favourite thing about ANU is... some shelves in the libraries are mobile shelves. These shelves with their rotary handles make me cherish the books I retrieve from them even more. They are probably one of the reasons I like heading to the library and borrowing physical copies of books.
When I'm not studying, I love to... scour the web for interesting information. For example, did you know that butterflies taste with their feet?
If I could change one thing in the world, I would... ask the world to be more open-minded and understanding, to not be cooped up in their minds and truly see their surroundings, and understand that no one is born under the same circumstances and therefore while you may not be able to help it but measure others according to your own yardstick, you must not subject them to it.

When I'm not studying, I love to... this happens a lot if I am honest. One of my favourite things to do is to go on an adventure to somewhere I haven't been before.

My favourite thing about ANU is... the location and layout of the campus. Having Black Mountain to the west, the city to the east, the lake to the south, and plenty of open space in between means there are no shortage of beautiful places to study or go for a run!
When I'm not studying, I love to... hang out with my mates, listen to music, cook, and play basketball.
If I could change one thing in the world, I would... ensure that rural, regional and remote students receive the same opportunities and resources as students from the major cities.

My favourite thing about ANU is... the people. I moved to Canberra just six months ago and I've already made friends for life, and with some very accomplished and inspirational people. My professors are engaged and know their fields. Of course, the beautiful Canberra weather really seals the deal.
When I'm not studying, I love to... organize social events for my cohort, bike, run, travel. Experiencing different cultures and being exposed to different ideas motivates me in what I do in- and outside of my studies.
If I could change one thing in the world, I would... crank up everyone's empathy dial a bit. That would probably go a long way in solving a lot of the world's problems

When I'm not studying, I love to... be involved in a diverse range of extra-curriculas. Coming to university, I made an effort to try out as many new things as possible. In doing so, I've met some amazing people and had some unforgettable experiences.
If I could change one thing in the world, I would... eradicate the concept of lying.

My favourite thing about ANU is... how much of a campus based university it is, and the sense of community that this brings with it. I love how everyone comes from such a diverse backgrounds, and has been brought here by such a passion for what they're studying, and what they want to do- it makes the people and atmosphere of the place really inspiring and warm.
When I'm not studying, I love to... armchair travel, continue the quest to find Canberra's best brunch spot, play sport, and go for runs along the lake.
If I could change one thing in the world, I would... try to cut down the amount we consume and waste, particularly in relation to food security, to improve the sustainability of our societies, tackle climate change, and ensure a more equitable distribution of resources and food globally.

My favourite thing about ANU is... its abundant of opportunities to interact with researchers and students. Nonetheless, the lecturers and tutors made the courses incredibly intellectually stimulating. I am constantly challenged to think and explore different ways of thinking and rationale. I've definitely rediscovered my passion and love for learning and reading through ANU. The people I've met at ANU are lovely and passionate about making a contribution to the world in various ways. This has inspired me to go out of my comfort zone to make my positive impact to the world!
When I'm not studying, I love to... drink hot green tea, snack on some wafers and read a book. Perfect for the Canberra Cold :)
If I could change one thing in the world, I would... change the way we respond, not react, to differences because communication is the key to resolve conflicts.

My favourite thing about ANU is... how close knit the community is which has allowed me to have an incredibly unique experience compared to my friends in Sydney. The friends that I have made here and the relationships I have fostered with my lecturers at the ANU is one of the best things about my university experience to date.
When I'm not studying, I love to... bike around some of Canberra's beautiful spots such as the Lake Burley Griffin. I also enjoy playing the ukulele and find that I play it the most when I need a break from university work!
If I could change one thing in the world, I would... cure monolingualism. I believe that it is incredibly valuable to learn another language as it really changes and enhances your perception of society and culture.

My favourite thing about ANU is... the range of opportunities the ANU offers to students, from overseas exchanges to scholarship and internship programs and extra-curricular sporting and leadership opportunities. All of the academic staff are supportive and willing to have a chat about career objectives or their course content and this creates a supportive learning environment to students.
When I'm not studying, I love to... read a good science fiction book or umpire softball and baseball.
If I could change one thing in the world, I would... get policymakers to listen to experts. I believe this would accomplish significant change in many areas from climate change to developments in artificial intelligence and robotics.

When I'm not studying, I love to... go for a run or practise yoga about the Black Mountain Peninsula. It's a beautiful spot and right on the doorstep of campus!

My favourite thing about ANU is... the campus. I am originally from Sydney and a lot of Universities there are moving towards vertical concrete campuses within the various CBDs. Whilst there some benefits to that approach for those students with new facilities and technologies, I love the park-like atmosphere of ANU. There are so many places (gardens, fields, in front of the lake etc.) where you can just chill out and relax. I doubt there are many CBD campuses in Sydney with a view of the mountains or a lake
When I'm not studying, I love to... there are probably too many things I like to do when not studying (I wish it was the other way around) but I especially enjoy playing team sports particularly oztag or touch footy; going out with friends; watching movies; and dining out.
If I have lots of time, I enjoy going for a scenic walk or drive somewhere out of town - just exploring somewhere new.
If I could change one thing in the world, I would... this is a hard one. But if I had unlimited power to change one thing in the world, I would love to be able to remove suffering and pain from the human experience.

My favourite thing about ANU is... the languages school! We have one of the best in the country, and many of the languages taught at ANU aren't taught anywhere else in Australia. The cultural subjects is particular are fantastic, with an extremely passionate team of academics teaching all sorts of interesting topics.
When I'm not studying I like to... sing in choirs, attend one of 51³Ô¹ÏÍø's fantastic public lectures or just unwind with a nice book and some tea!
If I could change one thing in the world I would... make education, particularly language education, as accessible as possible. Languages are extremely important in understanding different cultures and viewpoints, and I firmly believe that our society would be a lot more tolerant if everyone had better access to better quality language learning.

My favourite thing about ANU is... its community! I feel like ANU is home away from home, everyone I come in contact with is so friendly, it feels like a big family.
