Appointments

Academic Skills offers one to one 45 minutes appointment for ANU students. These can be very helpful for research students throughout their studies.

Early in your project you might find it useful to meet with a Learning Adviser and discuss how they can help you through the writing process. Additionally, you might discuss such topics as time management, managing the project, researching and note taking, or writing your research proposal.

Once you start writing, appointments might cover planning your thesis structure and writing individual chapters. For these appointments, you can submit drafts of your thesis so that the Learning Adviser can review your writing and give you tailored advice. At this point, generally you will have the same Adviser, who by now will be familiar with your project material.

Toward the end of the writing process, your Learning Adviser might help you develop strategies for editing your work and ensuring cohesion throughout your chapters.

Our consultations are very popular during semester times, so research students often find it useful to book an in person, zoom or written feedback appointment during the quieter months of the year (June, July, November, December, January).

For more details about our appointments rules and how they work please read the information on our general appointments page.

NB: Crawford School of Public Policy and Military Studies Program (Australian Command and Staff College) have their own academic support staff.
