What is the Unique Student Identifier (USI)?

The USI is a reference number that provides you with access to an online record of your training achievements in Australia. Your USI is different to your 51³Ô¹ÏÍø ID number, and is instead made up of a combination of ten numbers and letters.

Your USI is issued by the Australian Government. It is unique to you and is a lifelong number, so you only need to obtain your USI once.

Do I need to get a USI?

From 1 January 2023, all higher education students, including those who commenced prior to 2021, must have a USI to:

  • to graduate and receive their award.

This is a requirement under the Higher Education Support Act 2003 (HESA). For more information, please visit .
