Conference attendance
Attendance at national and international conferences is a common part of research training for ANU research students, providing an opportunity to present research and discuss it with others in the discipline. Undergraduates and graduate coursework students may also attend conferences where opportunities present themselves, though this is less common.
Individual academic areas have their own budgetary constraints and requirements about how to apply for conference attendance, and who has the authority to approve any available funding. Your academic area in the College will advise you about the requirements for financial reporting and submitting your final financial statement in relation to your conference attendance.
Research Students
The Delegated Authority approves your absence. Research students should discuss conference opportunities with their supervisor. The research administrator in your academic area in the College will also be able to assist. Conference attendance and presentation are well regarded for research students and will be recorded on their record.
Conference attendance is considered part of your candidature. You remain enrolled during the absence from campus and liable for tuition fees, if applicable. Your College should record details of your approved travel details in the Student Administration System.
For further assistance, contact your local HDR administrator in your academic area directly or your College student administration office to find the appropriate contact in your area.
Coursework Students
For undergraduates and coursework students, you will need to discuss any absences with your program convenor and individual course convenors.
