Research community
ANU is renowned as a research-intensive university, lauded for its scholarly production at professional and post-graduate levels. The 51³Ô¹ÏÍø's research culture, however, is holistic and embraces the entire student population from first year undergraduates to PhD candidates.
The following programs are in support of this community.
Undergraduate student publishing
Numerous opportunities exist at ANU to have academic papers published as an undergraduate. Working towards publishing research conducted via course work is a unique opportunity with many personal, professional, and academic benefits. While the experience of publishing can be hard work it amounts to a chance to network with likeminded peers across disciplines, hone your own research skills, and develop a greater understanding of postgraduate studies.
Undergraduate Awards
ANU is affiliated with The Undergraduate Awards and is part of a network of universities, identifying and encouraging the best undergraduate research around the world.
The Undergraduate Awards is the world's only pan-disciplinary academic awards programme for undergraduate students. Students submit work in one of 25 categories online and judged by a panel International judges. The winners are published in an academic journal, brought to Dublin for the UA Global Summit, a 4-day networking event and recognised as the best in their field.
Student Research Conference
Beginning in 2013, the annual Student Research Conference showcases the work of undergraduate, honours, and postgraduate coursework students from across all disciplines of the university. As such, the SRC offers students the opportunity to network with students from other disciplines and learn how other disciplines approach research methodology and problems.
Submission of abstracts is free and open to ANU students, and registration is open to students and the broader Canberra community. The conference includes various presentation styles with prizes conferred at the end of the conference for the highest quality contributions.
Australasian Conference
The Australasian Conference of Undergraduate Research is held annually, rotating location each time. ACUR was held at ANU first in 2014 and will be held here again in 2021. An undergraduate research conference is like any academic conference, except all presenters are undergraduates and their presentations are based on research work undertaken through their university courses. The conference provides an opportunity to meet students from other universities and share your research.
Attending the conference to present and network is one approach but there are also other roles available if you're interested. If you enjoy research, and you've got a stimulating story to tell, you can submit an abstract for an oral or poster presentation. If you're interested in learning how to put on a conference, you can bid for a place curating the conference program or an expression of interest in stage-managing the event, which means you'd be helping coordinate an international conference.
